David Soto

I lead the Consciousness Group at BCBL – Basque Center on Cognition Brain and Language.

PhD in Experimental Psychology (2004) from the University of Santiago de Compostela. I have worked at the Behavioural Brain Sciences Center at the University of Birmingham where I gained a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship from the British Academy for the Humanities.

In 2008, I set up my own laboratory at the Division of Brain Sciences at Imperial College London where I was an Assistant Professor and then Associate Professor until 2016.

In 2016, I returned to Spain to set up a new lab at the BCBL. My current work focusses in understanding the distinction between conscious and non-conscious processes during perceptual selection, learning and memory, language, and metacognition, using a wide range of behavioural, neuroimaging and computational methods in both typical and atypical populations.
